For any client (insurance card), you can tell Therabill to automatically add the all therapy modifiers to your service codes on your insurance claims to a specific payer. This is most commonly used with Medicare claims.
At this time, you need to make the setting specific to an insurance card. That is, you turn on the setting for a specific insurance card (specific client) at the time you are creating the insurance card. If you have already created the insurance card for a client and you want to use this setting, then you will want to edit the insurance card that you have already created to turn this setting on for that insurance card.
How to turn on Auto Therapy Code Modifiers
The setting to tell Therabill to automatically add the therapy modifiers (GN, GO, and GP) to your service lines for an insurance card (not an insurance company) is found on the add / edit insurance card form (see image to the right). To turn the setting on, check the check box labeled Auto add therapy modifiers (GP,GO,GN).
Remember to save the client after you apply the edits to the insurance card by clicking the Save button at the bottom of the add / edit client form.
What happens now?
Whenever you create a claim for that client to that specific insurance card, Therabill will automatically put on the therapy modifiers. The modifiers will only show up on the claim form. That is, the session is not edited to include the modifiers, the modifiers just show up on the claim form.
How does Therabill know what modifier to use?
Therabill determines what modifier to use based on the taxonomy code of the therapist associated with the session. Below is a list of taxonomy codes that will cause Therabill to add the therapy modifier along with the modifier that will be added.
What about Assistants and Supervisory sessions?
If an assistant (e.g. PTA, OTA, or SLPA) is the therapist who performed the session, then you will want to make sure you have the assistants taxonomy code entered correctly. Therabill always uses the taxonomy code of the "provider" listed on the session. It does not look at the supervisor for the taxonomy code.
